26 Weeks...month 6!!!

Wow! I can't believe how fast time has just flown by! It seems so crazy that I am now in my 6th month of pregnancy. In just a blink of an eye, our little one will be here and pregnancy was a thing of the past. Ian and I are just so very grateful to have been blessed with the opportunity to be parents to this little boy. Though it was a surprise to the both of us, our little man was no surprise to his Maker. He is such a gift from God and we can't wait to have him in our lives!

I am constantly reminded of Psalm 139 - "For You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.......How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!"

Alright, on to the update! We had our 26 week appt. on Tuesday and our little one isn't so teeny tiny anymore! He gained almost a pound in a month, making him a whopping 1 pound 13 ounces! And, just as I predicted, he did change positions on us! He is no longer breach! I have noticed that my trips to the bathroom are not as frequent (still frequent, just not AS frequent;)) since "the big move". We do have new pictures of our little guy which I hope to have posted very soon. One of the pictures is of his little foot and yes, dad, he's got the feet of a runner....long and lean! During the appt. I was tested for gestational diabetes, I should know the results for the testing within the week. I continue to have no infections, and my blood pressure was 86 over 106- the nurse suggested I drink some major caffiene...NO THANKS! Now, don't worry, this is perfectly fine- especially since I already have extremely low blood pressure. Our little guys growth is just perfect, he is right where they want him which is such a praise!

Since his position change, Ian and I are able to feel specific movements. There are times when we can feel his feet pushing or grazing across my belly! It is absolutely incredible and I just savor every second of those moments. Sometimes he takes both of his legs and kicks in opposite directions several times, I will never get tired of this, but boy- there are times when it hurts because he kicked so darn hard! He's very persistant. He will keep kicking until he gets me really good! ...hmmmm who does that remind you of......IAN!

So, this is the size of our little guy this week. A cucumber. Lovely image. His length crown to rump is 9.25 inches this week and as I said above, he weighed 1 pound 13 ounces.

To support the his growing body, the spine is getting stronger and more supple. Though no longer than the span of the average adult hand, it is now made up of 150 joints, 33 rings, and some 1,000 ligaments. Isn't God incredible?

Air sacs in the lungs form now. Lungs begin to secrete a greasy substance called surfactant. Without surfactant his lungs would stick together and couldn't expand after he is born.

Although they've been sealed shut for the last few months, his eyes are opening and beginning to blink this week! Retinas begin to form, also this week.

Brain wave activity for hearing and sight begins to be detectable. Brain scans show response to touch. If you shine a light on your abdomen, the baby will turn his head, which according to researchers, means his optic nerve is working.

Keep Growing little One! We love you!
